Mom just called me telling me about the travel news. The government had warned travelers who planed to go to Phuket before 1/10, because of the disaster a few days ago.
I became worried, so I searched for news and forums. It turned out that mainland Thailand was okay. So we can still go.
Many people wanted to cancel their trips because of the disaster. I think they worry too much. One of the reasons we have high education is to have the ability to differentiate facts from tales. We should search for the facts ourselves, and then decide if we should go. Not just listen to the news, because you know how Taiwan news groups are - they don't tell the whole truth.

Chicken Meat Man
I've decided to call THM the Chicken Meat Man, aka CMM.
He calls me 機毛女, derived from 機車, 龜毛女. So I call him 雞肉男, not 肌肉男.

Monopoly
It's the day after Christmas.
After spending $6,000 in Sogo, we met up with Randolf and his gf in a hot pot restaurant to have dinner. Afterwards, we invited them to our apartment to see our Christmas tree.
Then THM suggested we play Monopoly. It was the 2nd time this set of game was played. The 1st one was one year ago when THM asked what I liked to do for fun, and I said I liked to play Monopoly. During the year, he brought up this topic many times saying the game had been played only ONCE. Finally he got his chance to play it again.
The four of us started the game around 11:00pm, and played for straight 6 hours until 5:00am when Randolf claimed bankruptcy. THM was the Monopoly, and I came in second. At first, I kept losing money, but then some of my properties made a lot of money for me, so that I escaped from bankruptcy. Haha...

Shopping, Money, Chirstmas
It's Christmas today! THM and I went shopping.
Yesterday we went to the department year-end luncheon in Lakeshore hotel. It was my first time there. THM had always wanted to to spend a night there, or at least try some of their food. Now his wish has finally come true. ^^
The luncheon was a traditional Chinese style. We sat around a big table to eat. Something worth while to mention is that it was a all-you-can-eat kind of luncheon. Usually, all food is on a big table, and you need to walk there to pick up your food, and come back to your own seat to eat. But this one, you order from your own seat, and the waitresses put the food on your table. The advantage is that you don't need to walk around and can still eat a lot. The disadvantage is that the restaurant tend to get slow after you've ordered a lot of food.
Anyway, in every year-end party, there is prize-drawing. They required everyone to bring in a 500-dollar gift to exchange with others. However, managers had to bring in a more valuable gift. I got $500 cash from the secretary. THM got a gift from the department manager. At first, I thought it was a $500 book, then I found a $5,000 gift certificate inside the book.
This was the first time I got such a big prize. Well, not really mine, but THM's is mine, anyway.
THM said he always spend away such prizes, so we went to Sogo to spend the $5,000. We stayed in Sogo for about 5 hours. At the 4th hour, we had only $1,000 left, it's not enough to buy a pair of shoes, and too much for stationary, and a pair of gloves was too expensive. We already didn't know how to spend that money, so we decided to have DimSum since it's time to eat.
In the end of the day, we spent about $6,000 in Sogo...
What an experience. Now I can understand why those people who win lotteries went crazy. When suddenly you have too much money on hand, you don't know what to do with it, and problems come...

Tonsillitis
Tonsillitis
It turned out that I have tonsillitis! And it's a very serious one.
My throat hurt so bad that I didn't think it was a usual flu anymore, so I went to a hospital to have an E.N.T. doctor to check it out. He was very surprised to find out my tonsillitis was at a very bad stage, and could wait 'til now to see him. I was like, "yeah, I know, I am proud that I could suffer so much pain. Not!"
I was unconscious, for sleeping all day on Monday, so of course I didn't think it was that bad. I was more worried about my fever.
Today I was very conscious, since I was working, so I realized how bad my throat was.
Anyway, the doctor told me I had to revisit him two days later. And, he gave me an injection! When was the last time I had a injection?
God! My arm hurt from the injection. And it still hurts a little bit now.
Cannot believe how much medicine, including antibiotics, I need to take now. The doctor said it'd take a week for my throat to recover. One Week!?
It was just a very simple flu in the beginning. The only mistake I made was picking the wrong doctor, a charlatan. I will NEVER see him again, and I'm going to spread out the word about what a fraud he is. I hate him. Go to hell, charlatan!

I had a fever!
My throats has been hurt since last Friday. It's a sign telling me that I got a flu, again. I always get a flu when the air temperature change dramatically, so that's twice in a year, winter/spring and fall/winter. I get used to it.
So I didn't really pay much attention to it. Just went to see a doctor Saturday night. Took some drugs.
Then, I had a body temperature of 38.7 degree Celsius Sunday night! I've not had a fever for a very long time, which means, I haven't been this sick for a long time. I panicked.
Anyway, went to see the doctor again this morning. How I spent today? Eating, taking drugs, and sleeping are pretty much I've done today. God, my head was heavy when I had a fever.
I sweated during sleep. Was that normal?

What is it with stupid people doing inconsiderate things?
Remember, our working shift starts at 9:00 am.
If you want me to attend a meeting at 8:30 am, shouldn't you at least check with me if it is okay? Just for the sake of politeness and respectfulness, shouldn't you ask me if I could come in earlier?
And by the way, I don't come in at work on time often.
So I guess you'll just have to start the meeting without me for half an hour.
What is it with inconsiderate people doing disrespectful things?

15-Minute Fire Drill
There was a fire drill this afternoon. Nobody informed me of it, so I didn't know what to do during the drill. I saw everybody going out of the building, and followed them.
It was windy!! We were supposed to stay in our own group, but no one told me which group I should be in, so I stood there like a fool. After a while, I found our own group and got in, so the drill could be over.
I didn't realized the number of people at this site. It was some kind of a view. By the way, I saw for the first time people from fabrication labs wearing their working suits.

Hourglass
I've discovered a tool to record my daily working activities. It's called Hourgalss, written in Java.
Not bad. I just need to click start and stop, and it'd produce a timecard for me. I'll just need to convert it into a time sheet to turn in.
The down side is that I won't remember what I've done for this project. Coz there is no place for me to write down my thoughts.
What I did before, writing down project names, start and end time, and personal thoughts, in a text file. Now I don't have that kind of information with Hourglass. Therefore, I don't post my worklog here anymore.
Reading project names and time lines is not interesting.

2004-10-27 Work Log
9:20 - 10:00 ARP WIP.
Tonny's scheduled 8" wafer qty doesn't match mine. Still working on the root cause.
10:00 - 10:30 Meeting.
Discussion with Fendi and Tonny about data version and stuff.
10:30 - 11:00 T-A report.
Tom asked me to add one prompt question for user to select invoice numbers. Report has been released.
11:00 - 11:32 ARP WIP.
Emailed Tonny about my findings.
11:32 - 11:40 Turnkey WIP.
David claimed that he couldn't find a certain part. The reason is that he entered six codes into a 7 codes prompt, so no data was found. Explained how to use.
11:45 - 11:54 ARP CASD.
Fendi asked me to add a version question in the prompt. I found out there is not September data, so I asked Tonny to fix it.
11:54 - 12:06 T-A report.
Tom claimed that there was something wrong with the data, but I found no error.
13:00 - 14:00 ARP WIP.
Found two extra pieces of wafers for fab. The reason is that part was not belonged to a certain customer in real time wip. Have informed Tonny about it.
14:00 - 14:05 ARP DP.
Originally there was no data for September version. Tonny fixed it, but the demand year/month is still wrong. Have informed Tonny about it.
14:05 - 15:00 Proofreading and Archiving.
Arthur has asked me to refine Joseph's email. I've read it once, couldn't understand it, and don't want to read it anymore...
15:15 - 16:00 ARP Shipping.
Some difference between DP shipping and ARP Shipping. Reason: there are two customers under one customer family in DW, but there is only one customer under that customer family in DP. Therefore, there is more records in our ARP report. Informed Fendi and Tom about my discovery. Waiting for a conclusion.
16:15 - 16:33 ARP Cycle Time.
Confirmed with Cathy about TI abnormal lot definition. Gave Tonny a new sql statement to create a view.
16:33 - 17:20 ARP Formatting.
Formatted cycle time report for 5 customers.
17:20 - 17:26 Daily Monitoring.
One error.
17:26 - 17:50 ARP Formatting.
17:50 - 18:00 ARP Performance Testing.
Not good at all.
18:10 - 18:20 Meeting.
Discussed with THM about my NTO universe.
18:20 - 19:00 ARP NTO.
Meeting with Tonny to discuss about the time frame of data to be kept. Experimented with the solution THM suggested, but couldn't use it because I couldn't get the right result with that solution. Experimented with other solutions, but decided that I should wait for Tonny's revision.

Missing work log
Wonder why there is no work log for the 25th? Because everyone in the city had a typhoon day off! Yipee! A three day weekend!
But THM and I still got up that early morning. I, personally got up at 7:30am. We didn't know the day was off until we went to pick up our bike. The landlord saw us, and asked, "isn't today an off-work day?" We were like, "uh? What are you talking about?"
Then THM called our manager to find out, it's true! Gosh! It was so embarrassing, and stupid of us. I should've watched the news.
Anyway, it was a wet day, of course.

Personal Log
9:00 - 9:45 ARP NTO.
Gave Fendi NTO sql statement to do SIT. Asked her to install Teradata ODBC, so she'd be able to use Queryman in the future.
9:45 - 11:45 ARP CASD.
Re-constructed report and preparing SIT sql for Fendi.
11:45 - 12:00 ARP NTO.
Change SIT sql so that Fendi can run it on pl/sql developer.
12:00 - 12:13 ARP CASD.
13:00 - 13:30 Web Browsing.
13:30 - 15:00 ARP NTO.
15:00 - 17:15 Turnkey WIP.
David had questions about metal stages. I tried to find out the reason of his problem.
17:15 - 19:00 ARP NTO.
Data validation. A product body created in 1998 showed up in the report for ADI when querying product created in 2004/09. Reason: that certain product was created for more than 1 customer. Currently, the defition of tape out date is by product. Fendi wants to change to the definition to by product and customer.
19:00 - 19:15 BO usage log.
19:30 - 20:00 ARP NTO.
I think my NTO universe is weird. I'm afraid that I'll get duplicate records in my report. The interesting thing is that I don't! I want Zach to look at my universe to be sure, but he is busy. I will ask him tomorrow.

13:00 - 13:50 ARP NTO.
13:50 - 15:00 MCKOA sent an email saying that there was something wrong with our report data. It turned out that there was no data in the source, and that he didn't maintain metal stages. I explained my findings and sent him a turnkey help file hoping that he'll maintain his own data. I also logged this issue in our issue log file, but no body reads it anyway. Don't know why I still bother.

THM a.k.a. turtle Hair Man
He's not a super hero. He's not a villain. He's not in any comic books. In fact, he's not a turtle. He has hair, but he is not a turtle.
So, who is he? He is my bf, Zach, the 龜毛男.
Zach, a.k.a. THM, will be coming soon, eh... coming in all of my future blogs when it's time for him to be on the stage.

The Day After a Typhoon
Had 1.5 days off from work due to typhoon Aere. Don't know if I should be glad or what. I was happy I got 1.5 days to be wasted. The first day I pretty much played an online game, ate, and slept. I was proud of myself that I played an online game for like, 10 hours straight. This was my first online game. I never liked computer games. Thought it's not my type. But I guess I just didn't meet my right type. This one, I got to play with my bf, and it's nice that you got someone to play with.
The second day, which was yesterday, more boring stuff. Since we went to bed at 3:00AM, we slept 'til noon. And since the typhoon was kinda serious yesterday, we didn't go far. Zach wanted to be adventurous, so we dressed in raincoats and went out in heavy rain and strong wind. I almost got knocked up once by the strong wind.
It's really nice that we got extra days to waste.
What's not nice is the damage all over Taiwan. People lost homes and lives. I'm glad that I live in a pretty safe place. The only damage at home was that my sister's window was broken due to the strong wind. But the window had a crack in it, so that's the reason it was broken so easily. My parents didn't discover it 'til her room was flooded. They spent a lot of time cleaning it up. Besides this, everything was fine.
The second day, which was yesterday, more boring stuff. Since we went to bed at 3:00AM, we slept 'til noon. And since the typhoon was kinda serious yesterday, we didn't go far. It's 9:00 PM now. I'm in a hospital waiting in line for more than one hour to pay the medical bill. Not mine, it's Zach's.
There was not many patients actually. So why waiting so long? Their central computer system is crashed, so everything is done manually. They can't handle a crisis like this. The computer is crashed, and still there are only three people at the counter. Why not adding more men to speed up the process? It's not time to save money.
After paying the bill, Zach needs to do a couple test - urine and X-ray.
I hope everything is fine. We won't know the result 'til next Monday, and he needs to see the doctor again. Going thru a surgery must be a pain. I really don't wanna see it.

Uncle-in-law
I got a call from my mom on Sunday the 11th. She said that my uncle-in-law died from cancer that night. I was in shock.
He asked me about a month ago to make an appointment to see a doctor in Taipei. I thought it was weird because he could've asked his sons or daughter. It's not like we were close at all. That night, the four of us discussed about his family situation - a rather peculiar family.
I'm not sad. I'm just very sorry for him and his family. If he went to see a doctor earlier, when he felt pain, maybe he could be saved. He died one month after the discovery. It's too soon, and it meant that the cancer was at a late stage.
I bet his family is feeling mad at themselves for ignoring the problem, for not caring enough.
This is the second person I know of died from late discovery of sickness. We ought to pay attention to our health. Don't save this kind of money from seeing a doctor.

Belated Mail
I've read a couple pieces of news about belated mails. Some of them were delivered 30 years after they were sent. I've found them very interesting.
When I went to the U.S. for the first time, and I think it was in 1992, I sent two post cards to my next-door-neighbor sisters. But they never got them. I thought the cards were lost.
Guess what! I got them one year later! I remember the postage for a post card was 40 cents in 1992, but it went up to 50 cents in 1993. The postage was 40 cents on the cards I sent. I was glad the U.S. postmaster didn't ask me to pay more.
I think the reason my mail were delayed was that I didn't know how to drop them into the post-box. It didn't look like our Taiwanese post-box at all. My teacher didn't really know it either. So I pushed the cards into the box's interstice. They must've stayed there for a year until a postman noticed them.
I don't have the cards anymore. But I still remember this interesting story. ^^

What a nightmare
I thought my easy days were coming. I thought I wouldn't need to hurry to work in the morning anymore, at least for the next two months. Because a summer intern was coming to take over some of my load.
But my dream was destroyed. Arthur asked me to give him a ride everyday!! But he needs to get here before 9:00AM!! That means I need to be here by 9:00AM, too!! Gees. How early do I need to get up?
A good dream became a nightmare.

A caffeinless day is a painful day
This is my first working day after I decided to quit coffee once and for all. I quitted it once before. Truthfully I succeeded until there was one day, I was very tired, and thought that one small cup of coffee wouldn't hurt. And that was when I started drinking coffee again.
I didn't like coffee at all before. I hated the bitter taste. But now I need caffeine to keep me up. I get tired everyday. I think it's due to my bad quality of sleep.
All of my doctors asked me to stop drinking coffee, but I just didn't think it's a big deal, until I realized what caffeine has done to me. It is the root cause of my physical sickness and weakness. If I want to have good health, I really need to quit coffee. I can't take the pain anymore.
And I'm so sleepy now...

We are supposed to be off now. As a matter of fact, we were just leaving when Zach was stopped and asked to deploy a program. Because the user is going to promote the new product tomorrow. Well, since all the audience will be big bosses, it's very important that the program is set to be perfect, today.
After sitting down, a big problem was discovered. The structure of the product was changed somehow, by someone. Whom, that we don't know. The thing I don't understand is that, who could do that? I mean, all users' privileges to alter in the production environment were all taken away, right? Unless there was a miss. So, Zach have to stay in to solve the problem. It's the reason I'm writing this blog... I'm bored and frustrated by the person messed everything up.
Calm down. *fanning self*

The 1st post & Y
I've heard of blogger before, but never visited it. Now I've created this blog because of my bf. He discovered this tool, and found it's interesting. So I decided to have one of my own... And it's just that simple. Hopefully I will make my entries interesting enough. Not to shame my readers...
